In grades 9 through 12, UHA seeks to develop its students’ self-confidence, integrity, and sensitivity to other people, as well as to provide a foundation of knowledge and a respect for scholarship and creativity. The curriculum in these grades is designed to provide every student with a broad, liberal arts preparation. Courses and activities are designed to challenge and develop the abilities and interests of each student, without frustrating them. Small classes allow teachers to give attention to individual study.
Enhancing the college preparatory curriculum is the Advanced Placement program, which allows qualified sophomores, juniors, and seniors to experience the rigor of a college seminar class and possibly earn college credit, based on their performance on the national College Board Advanced Placement tests, which are administered each May. Current AP offerings are Biology, Chemistry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, 2-D Art and Design, United States Government and Politics, United States History, and World History: Modern.
Early each fall semester, the entire Upper School participates in Outdoor School, activities off campus in cities such as Chattanooga, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Washington D.C. During this event, students and faculty bond and experience integrated learning activities based on the environment and culture of the area.
Other extracurricular involvements include Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Interact, Kentucky Youth Assembly, field trips, performing arts performances, homecoming activities, and more.
