As a conclusion to a solar system unit, fourth and fifth grade science students participated in a poster contest held by Hopkinsville Community College. The theme of the poster contest was “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Astronomy”. On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will occur. Hopkinsville, Kentucky is one of the best locations to see the eclipse. This is a very rare event. The contest was a great way to learn about the solar eclipse and incorporate art and science together. The first place winner was Carly Craft. She received a Galileoscope and first place ribbon. Carly’s poster will be displayed at the community college. She will compete in the county-wide contest. Avery Daniel was the second place winner and received a ribbon. Maggie Unfried was the third place winner and received a ribbon.
