On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will occur right here in Western Kentucky.  The community eclipse preparation committee hosted a poster contest for students in fourth and fifth grades at the local elementary schools.  There were eight schools from three different counties that participated.   Each school selected a winning poster.  Fifth grade student, John McKeehan was the UHA school winner.   He received a star gazing kit consisting appropriately of a pair of binoculars, a compass, and a star chart donated by the Hopkinsville Community College Foundation – one of the contest sponsors. All the winning posters were then judged by a panel of college faculty and local citizens experienced in art and astronomy.   On Friday, October 23, our very own John McKeehan was announced the overall grand prize winner.  He received a Kindle provided by Cornerstone Information Systems.  The posters are on display at Hopkinsville Community College. Congratulations, John!
